About Our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Garage
Glenn Stafford has been working in transport at our site on Wigan Lane, Leyland since 1992.
Originally concentrating on heavy goods vehicles, our site was ideal, being just next to Junction 28 of the M6 and easily seen from the motorway.
Glenn got interested in wheelchair accessible vehicles in 2002 and was pleased to meet Sheila Thomson, an amazing lady, who had been in a wheelchair a long time because of guillan barre.
Sheila was our inspiration and our adviser and we have been selling used wheelchair accessible vehicles at Thorntrees Garage ever since.
We already had the workshop, the paintshop and the expertise in working with motor vehicles and as we increased our stock, Sheila was delighted to be our super model and appear in our photographs.
Over the years our stock and expertise have grown and we now have over 60 used wheelchair cars on site for you to view and test drive.
We have also extended to do the Motability Nearly New scheme which provides wheelchair cars with low deposits for those who wish to use the Motability Scheme.
WAVs have certainly come a long way since those early days. They now come in all shapes and sizes, more automatics are available and with some it is hard to tell they are wheelchair adapted from the outside.
Sadly, Sheila passed away in 2011 but her husband, John, still works for us. We try to carry on with the ethos that Sheila helped establish, of finding the best wheelchair car that we can to suit our customers’ circumstances.
